Case Study: Holy Mountain Brewing Co.
Rebranding
Role: Graphic Design
Introduction
For an assignment while at ASU I was tasked to rebrand Holy Mountain Brewing Co. with the intention of enhancing the companies image to be more visually appealing. The brief for the rebranding was open-ended, so I was able to explore any design concepts I felt would fit the brewing company. Holy Mountain Brewing Co. is a real company located in Seattle, WA, however this project is fictitious and was assigned for a grade. I have not done business with Holy Mountain Brewing Co. and the following designs were for educational gain only.
Research
Holy Mountain Brewing Co. is inspired by the wild land of the Pacific Northwest and all of its beauty. They celebrate it’s music, nature and art and are fascinated by the occult.
When redesigning the logo I used two concepts from the Davis & Hunt book. The first being Symbol; I researched Indigenous tribes native to Washington State and symbols they used to represent findings in nature.
Mind Mapping
The mind mapping began by focusing on the two words that makeup the company, Holy and Mountain, and finding words that represent them. I also chose to focus on their craft, brewing beer, and found words that represent that. Through this I complied a list of words that I felt identified Holy Mountain Brewing Co. well.
Sketches
I drew and explored a number of concepts and then refined three different ones and then vectorized them.
Branding Identity
The inital logo is inspired by the native symbols for Eagle and Mountain. Eagle represents power, while Mountain represents abundance and is considered sacred to natives. The mountain is shown within the eagle shape, representing the primal connection between the two. Both signify power and are sacred to the local tribes of Washington.
Holy Mountain Brewing Co.’s existing branding aligns with local tribes visually and honors the sacred designs and centuries old traditions. I redesigned the logo with this as a priority as well.
